Questions from car-care businesses
What you need to join, how bookings and money work, and what stays yours. If your question is not here, email support@autara.au.
Getting started
What you need before you can take your first booking.
What do I need to sign up?
An ABN, a government photo ID, and public liability insurance. You upload them during onboarding, and you can add trade certifications if you have them.
Why do you check all three?
All three are checked before you can take a booking, and that check is what lets a customer trust a name they have never heard of. It is the same reason your listing can say ABN verified when a stranger's cannot.
How long does approval take?
Your documents are reviewed by a person, not a script. You can set up your services, hours and payouts while you wait, and we will tell you the moment you are approved.
What happens if a document is rejected?
You will be told which document and why, and you can upload a replacement without starting the application again. The most common reasons are a photo too dark to read and a certificate that has expired.
My city is not open yet. What does waitlisted mean?
Autara opens city by city. If yours is not open you can still finish your application, and you join the waiting list rather than going live. We contact you when your city opens. Melbourne is the city onboarding now.
Can I do this alongside my existing work?
Plenty do. You control your availability. Set the days and hours you actually want to work, and change them whenever things shift.
Bookings
How work reaches you, and what you decide.
How does a booking reach me?
A customer picks a service and a time and pays a deposit. The request lands in your inbox and waits for you. Nothing is booked into your calendar until you confirm it, so a booking is never forced on you.
What if I do not answer a request?
Requests are cancelled automatically if they go unanswered, and the customer is not left waiting indefinitely. You are reminded before that happens.
Can I move a booking after it is confirmed?
Yes. Either side can propose a new time, and the booking only moves once the other side agrees. Until then the original time stands, so nobody turns up to a slot that quietly changed.
Can I take walk-ins and phone bookings too?
Yes. You can add a booking yourself from the schedule, and send the customer a payment link. Days with nothing on them show as open for walk-ups rather than as empty.
How many jobs can I run at once?
You set that during onboarding and can change it later. It is what stops the calendar offering a slot you cannot actually staff.
Money
What you pay, what you keep, and how it reaches you.
What does it cost to join?
One plan at $99 a month, with every feature in it. There are no per-booking fees and no listing fees, and you keep your own pricing.
Do you take a cut of each job?
No. What the customer pays for the job is yours.
How do I get paid?
Through Stripe, into your own bank account. The customer pays a deposit to confirm the booking and the balance is captured once the job is done. Payouts typically land within days.
Where can I see what I have earned?
The Earnings screen shows this month, pending payouts, your lifetime total, and every transaction with the fees on it, so the number you see is what reaches your bank rather than a headline figure.
Can I invoice a customer directly?
Yes. Invoices are part of the tool, so a job that started as a phone call can still be billed and tracked in the same place as everything else.
Your business
The parts you control, which is most of them.
Do I set my own prices?
Yes. Prices, hours, service area and how many jobs you take at once are all yours. Autara does not set your rates or push work at you.
Can I work mobile, from a workshop, or both?
Any of the three. If you travel, you set how far, and customers outside that range do not see you as available to come to them.
Can I bundle services together?
Yes. Alongside individual services you can build packages, price them as one thing, and put them in front of customers the same way.
What happens to reviews?
Customers can review a completed booking and those reviews sit on your public profile. You see them in the tool alongside the booking they came from.
Account and support
When something is wrong or you are stuck.
How do I get help?
Email support@autara.au. Tell us your business name and, if it is about one booking, the date and the customer's first name, and we can find it without a back and forth.
Can I use Autara on my phone as well as a computer?
Yes. The same tool runs in a browser on a desktop and as an app on a phone or tablet, on the same account.
Can I leave?
Yes. Your customers and your prices are yours. Contact support and we will walk you through closing the account and what happens to bookings already in the calendar.
Still deciding?
You can create an account and set up your services before you commit to anything. Nothing goes live until you are approved.
